  • On January 31st 2006, President Bush in his State of the Union Address stated: "With a new national commitment ...the first car driven by a child born today could be powered by hydrogen, and pollution-free. Join me in this important innovation to make our air significantly cleaner, and our country much less dependent on foreign sources of energy."
  • The President's Hydrogen Fuel Initiative pledges $1.2 billion over five years for the research, development, and demonstration of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. The work is being carried out in partnership with the private sector and under the leadership of the Department of Energy. The goal is to make cost-effective fuel-cell vehicles widely available in auto showrooms by 2020.
  • 1/2 pound of hydrogen = approximately 1 gallon of gasoline in energy value.
  • Hydrogen fuel cells are essentially batteries that generate electricity by converting hydrogen and oxygen into water, producing no pollution.
